The Next Level with Ralph Gibson and Ted Forbes
OVERVIEW:
The Next Level is the ultimate photography experience—a gathering of passionate practitioners in the city that never sleeps. This immersive, three-day event will address your image-making questions and concerns in the context of a group studio setting.
Ralph Gibson and Ted Forbes will host the workshop, guiding you and all participants through a unique curriculum including group critiques as well as an exploration of issues in photography through dialogue and hands-on sessions.
The experience is designed with two key goals in mind:
— Walk away with a renewed confidence in your work
— Embrace a clear vision for the next steps in your photography practice to ensure continued development
Key Components and Content:
A “preview and prep” session with Ted Forbes and Luiz Marinho, Ralph’s Studio Manager. This virtual gathering will take place one month in advance of the in-person experience.

Group critique—you will submit a portfolio of 10 images in advance of the in-person experience. Individual work will be reviewed by Ralph and Ted in advance of the workshop, and images will be shared for group discussion. The intention of critique during The Next Level is to instruct and inspire each individual photographer while also benefiting from the group experience.
Presentation and dialogue about historical and contemporary issues in photography, including form and composition, perspective, camera handling, the photographer’s intention, and more. These topics will cater specifically to the needs of the group.
Camera-in-hand practice sessions to workshop ideas and challenges presented throughout the event. Note: one of our studio sessions will be with live models, focused on the figure and nude as metaphor.

Virtual “orientation” session with Ted Forbes and Luiz Marinho
LOCATION:
Join us in person in New York City for this multi-day workshop. All activities will be centered in the Bowery neighborhood in Lower Manhattan. A local studio space will be the main site for group activities and discussions.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Photographers with a desire for significant growth in their work, vision, and practice. This program is open to all experience levels from beginner to advanced.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Limited to 16 participants.
You are responsible for arranging travel, accommodations, and meals. A selection of recommended hotels will be shared with you in advance.
A welcome supper will be provided on Friday evening, and water/snacks will be provided in the studio on Saturday and Sunday.
You should plan for some walking and stair climbing throughout the weekend. The studio space is located two flights up with no elevator.
Workshop experiences may be photographed and filmed for future use. A photo release is included in the registration process.

This experience is a rare opportunity to work with two accomplished practitioners in the field of photography. Legendary photographer Ralph Gibson has a career spanning 60 years with unparalleled experience making fine art photography books. Ted Forbes, the celebrated creator of The Art of Photography on YouTube, is a leading figure in photography education.

The workshop fee is $3,700.00.
CANCELLATION & REFUNDS
Cancel on or before February 23, 2024 — all workshop fees refunded less 10% for administrative fees.
Cancel on or after February 24, 2024 — no refund will be given
All cancellations must be submitted via email to studio@tedforbes.com.
If the minimum of 10 participants is not reached by March 5, 2024, the event will be canceled and all fees fully refunded.
